Where did copy link go within file explorer?

Something changed from yesterday to today!

In file explorer, I no longer see Copy Link from the right-click menu. I've looked everywhere. I use this way of sharing extensively. Hints for where it went? or how to get it back?

Thank you.

michael

    Hi @michael munson

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

As of recent updates to Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 for Business, the Copy Link option may no longer appear directly in the right click context menu. This change is part of a broader redesign of File Explorer’s integration with cloud services. Here are a few steps you can take to restore or work around this functionality:

    1. Use “Show More Options”
      • Right-click the file in File Explorer.
      • Select Shift + F10 or click Show More Options.
      • Look for Copy Link in the expanded menu.
    2. Use the Share Dialog
      • Right-click the file and choose Share.
      • In the Share window, click Copy Link (if available).
      • If not visible, open the file in SharePoint Online and copy the link from there.
    3. Escalate via Microsoft 365 Admin Center If the issue persists, additionally, you may need further and deeper step by step assistance, I recommend you submit a Support Ticket (if you are admin or you can contact your IT admin) to escalate this to Microsoft via https://admin.microsoft.com/#/support/requests because our technical team can contact you directly via call or meeting to troubleshoot issue faster.

Additional Notes: This issue has been reported by other users in the Microsoft Q&A forums. You can follow the discussion and updates here:

    1. Copying SharePoint file links in File Explorer no longer works
    2. The 'copy link' option for files seems to have disappeared

Seems that if you keep re-starting this works back to functional share links. Might be a flaw from recent update. Do a few re-starts and seems to work fine.
