Sensitive comment flagging in Microsoft Viva Glint surfaces comments in the admin view of any comments report that contains personally identifiable information (PII), sensitive topics, and profanity. Admins can quarantine and redact flagged comments when this feature is enabled.
Important
Admins can't customize words or themes classified as sensitive comments by Microsoft. Because the list of sensitive comments is Microsoft intellectual property, it isn't shareable.
Sensitive comment categories
Flagged, sensitive comments fall into three categories:
- Profanity: Curse words and explicit language.
- Personally identifiable information (PII): Personally identifiable information, like names.
- Sensitive work environment: Keywords related to discrimination, harassment, unsafe working conditions, and bullying.
Note
Sensitive comment flagging doesn't currently support non-English comments.
Enable sensitive comment flagging
Important
Sensitive comment flagging isn’t immediate as participants submit surveys. There is a delay in flagging as comments are processed.
To enable sensitive comments:
- Confirm that the survey isn't approved. Go to Configuration, select Survey programs, choose a survey, and switch off the Approved toggle.
- From the admin dashboard, select the Configuration symbol, then in Service Configuration, choose Advanced Configuration.
- Select Surveys and choose a survey.
- In the Sensitive Comments section, select checkboxes for:
- Flag PII
- Flag Sensitive
- Flag Profanity
- Select Save Changes.
Note
This update flags new comments, but doesn't flag feedback submitted before enabling sensitive comments.
Manage sensitive comments as an admin
With sensitive comment flagging enabled, admins see four categories in comments reporting: PII, Profanity, Sensitive, and Quarantined. Redact All Terms and Un-Redact All options are also available for redacting flagged words in bulk.
Quarantine comments
Quarantined comments are hidden from non-admin users. To quarantine a flagged comment:
- From the admin dashboard, select Reports, then Comments.
- In the Comments section, go to the PII, Profanity, or Sensitive section to view flagged comments. Keywords are highlighted in red.
- On each comment, select its ellipsis and choose Quarantine to move comments to the Quarantined category.
- To remove a comment from the Quarantined category, select its ellipsis and choose Un-Quarantine.
Note
Viva Glint Admins can quarantine any comment, even when enabling the Sensitive comments feature after a survey closes.
Redact comments
To replace PII and profanity in flagged comments with "#####," you can choose to redact in bulk or for specific comments.
Note
Flagged keywords for comments in the Sensitive category can't be redacted.
To redact all PII and profanity terms:
- From the admin dashboard, select Reports, then Comments.
- In the Comments section, select Redact All Terms to mask flagged words with "#####."
- Select Un-Redact All to restore the original comment text.
To redact PII and profanity for specific comments:
- From the admin dashboard, select Reports, then Comments.
- In the Comments section, go to the PII or Profanity sections to view flagged comments. Keywords are highlighted in red.
- On each comment, select its ellipsis and choose Redact.
- To restore the original comment text, select the ellipsis and choose Un-Redact.
