The 2025 release wave 2 plan covers all new functionalities planned to be delivered to market from October 2025 to March 2026. In this article, you'll find the product overview and what's new and planned for Finance agents in Microsoft 365.
Overview
Finance agents in Microsoft 365 are a suite of intelligent agents built on Microsoft Copilot Studio. These agents streamline and enhance financial operations. Finance professionals can create these agents directly in Microsoft Excel without any coding. After you set up the agents, they connect to your company's financial systems. They run tasks on their own and send results through email or Microsoft Teams. This process ensures you get timely insights and actionable information.
In the 2025 release wave 2, we focus on the following agents:
Financial Reconciliation Agent Use the Financial Reconciliation Agent in the financial period close process or daily to compare financial information between multiple data sources. It can compare intercompany invoices between lending and borrowing legal entities, reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable statements shared by customers and vendors, and compare tax transactions in ERP to the statements reported to tax authorities. The Financial Reconciliation Agent connects to multiple financial systems by using the Power Platform connectors framework. It identifies differences by using predefined or AI-suggested attributes, classifies unreconciled data, troubleshoots discrepancies, and runs reconciliation workflows with minimal user input. This agent reduces close cycle times and improves accuracy by proactively identifying mismatches and suggesting resolution paths.
Variance Analysis Agent Variance Analysis agent reviews financial results and creates financial commentary for variances between selected data points. It works with variances between budget or forecast and actual results and compares current results to previous periods. It also compares product lines, geographies, or business units. The agent identifies key outliers, recommends the next best actions, and shares the results through email or Teams message. With this agent, finance teams can move from reactive reporting to proactive performance management.
Collections agent for Accounts Receivable Collections agent helps accounts receivable professionals manage accounts receivable communications. It prioritizes outreach, generates personalized communication, and tracks responses. This agent boosts efficiency and improves cash flow with minimal oversight.
