Introduction
To keep the SharePoint environment in healthy state it is important to follow best practices and guidelines.
Best Practices
- Move Database files on other drive than system drive
- Place database log files on other drive than data drive and system drive
- IIS log files and ULS log files to be moved on other drive than system drive
- Use naming conventions for all components (services applications, database names, services accounts)
- Disable Loopback check
- Disable Unused services like: spooler, Audiosrv, Do not run SharePoint application on the same server as SQL database server unless it is only for testing purposes.
- Optimize content databases Autogrowth settings to reflect the expected growth and use rather growth by MB, than percentage. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc298801.aspx
- Set Max degree of parallelism to 1 on SQL server
- Use database alias when configuring the farm using cliconfg tool
- Use Kerberos authentication
- Use as much as you can SSL with sites
