Someone recently asked me what resources I would recommend for a beginner learning Unity, and since I have gotten this question before I figured I would write a post about it.
The great thing is that there are a multitude of resources out there about Unity, so pick and choose as you like. But here is a round up of my favorites:
1) Pluralsight Introduction to Game Development with Unity- detailed videos that walk through making a 3d First Person Shooter. i like that this one shows everything from setting up your 3d enviro to enemy spawn and display health GUI (*note that you need a Pluralsight subscription, but so worth it)
2) Digital Tutors - has a plethora of videos for almost every Unity topic you could need... (note you also need a pluralsight subscription for this)
3) Microsoft Virtual Academy - experts from Microsoft and Unity joined forces for this. Has content for both 2d, 3d, porting, and sample codes. and it is free!
If you aren't a video person...
4) digitalerr0r blog - has a nice 'getting started' walk-through complete with screenshots and scripts
5) Unity Stealth tutorial - this was published by Unity, and gives you a project to download and then work with. Going through the whole thing takes a fair bit of time, but you would walk away with a pretty solid understanding of the fundamentals of Unity, I'd say.
What's YOUR favorite Unity tutorial? Comment below! Happy learning, friends!
