If you are interested in learning about web development with .NET, Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition (yeah, it's a long name) is an awesome tool (and free), but you might also need hosting to see your work live. The web team is offering a no-obligation 30-day hosting account that includes 50Mb of disk space and 30Mb database space. This no-cost package lets you:
Connect to a live web server from Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition;
Upload ASP.NET 2.0 Starter Kits such as the Personal Web Site Starter Kit;
Upload your custom ASP.NET 2.0 applications (including web page content files and SQL Server Express databases);
See your applications live on the web!
If you are looking for a longer-term hosting solution, you can find many ASP.NET hosters at https://www.asp.net/hosters/. By the way, the ASP.net site has plenty of useful information to anyone who is interested in getting started with web development, including a couple things we don't have available on MSDN (like a list hosting partners).
If you have any feedback on our resources to help web developers get started, please let me know!
