There was an interesting bit on NPR this morning about how the DEA is cracking down on some doctors who over-prescribe pain medications, which then somehow turn up on the black market. Putting aside any realistic discussion of the war on drugs, I do have a techno-utopian solution to this particular problem. When a patient needs painkillers, give them a designer drug with a built-in release system coded to their DNA. That way, only the person who received the prescription can get the benefit of the drug.

It is a good thing prescription drugs are so cheap, and we can easily afford to quadruple their cost. ;) - Anonymous
