Hello,

I'm using AVD Remote Windows App Web Client to access AVD VM on Ubuntu Linux 24.04 device via the website Windows Cloud Microsoft. It is not running in private mode, and I have been using it both on Firefox and Google Chrome.

Specifically, I need to use the Portuguese (ABNT) keyboard layout, and I need compatibility with Dead Keys, such as: á, õ, ê, ç, ü.

When I'm trying to use Windows App keyboard layouts with dead keys (for ex. Portuguese ABNT QWERTZ layout) they do not work, I'm not able to type ã letter for example (shift + "~" and then "a" results in ã).

Whatever method I try to use a desktop browser window the dead keys are inactive. It occurs both on Firefox and Google Chrome, private or default.

I tried disabling/enabling IME in the Web Client connection screen below, but it doesn't fix the problem. The only different is:

  1. when I access via Firefox, I receive a message stating that IME does not work on Private Browsing, even when I use regular browsing with no protection whatsoever (no Privacy Badger, Ublock, or anything similar)
  2. when I access via Chrome, it simply does not work, without any alerts.

    Hello.

The conflict you've met is largely due to how the browser handles keyboard scan codes under the Linux compositor before passing them to the AVD gateway. And you should also ensure the IME toggle is disabled, as this feature is optimized for CJK characters and could potentially causing the conflict.

Have you try to open the Windows App web client settings via the gear icon before connecting and manually select the Portuguese (Brazilian ABNT) keyboard layout instead of the default detection yet? Once inside the VM, confirm that the language bar is explicitly set to Portuguese (Brazilian ABNT) and that the Windows session isn't defaulting back to US English.
