Hi, I hope you are doing well.

One of our users left the company, and a new hire joined, the employee who left was not having that much emails or data, so instead of deleting his account, we reassigned the email to the new employee from the admin center, to reflect the new employee information, in some cases, the username happens to appear as the old employees' name, and in some cases it is reflecting the new employee details, this mainly happened in SharePoint and in Teams, any advice for this?

    Hi @Yousef Zakarneh

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand that you've updated the old employee's account with the new employee's name, but in some places, the old name still appears.  . I’d like to ask a few quick questions to better understand your situation and assist you more effectively:

Was the old employee’s account deleted and later restored for the new employee, or was the same account simply reassigned without deletion?

Where exactly did you update the account information?

Was it through the Microsoft 365 admin center?

Did you go to Manage contact information?

Did you update both the "First name" and the "Display name"?

How long ago did you make these changes? Sometimes it may take a little while for changes to propagate across all Microsoft services.

Where are you still seeing the old name appear? For example, when mentioning the user with “@” in Microsoft Teams, or when searching in SharePoint?

I'm sincerely sorry for the inconvenience that you've encountered. It could be relative to the sync problem but I need to know more about your situation so I can help you better. I appreciate your patience and are here to help. Looking forward to your response
