My company has instructed me to install three new font types to fit with their new branding. I have successfully installed all three and can use them all in a Word document. However I also need to set one as my default font for emails using Outlook and when I go to select it from the drop down menu it is not there? Any suggestions very gratefully received as this is driving me mad!!!

    Hi,

Thanks for bringing this up. Let's figure this out together.

Before we proceed, I need to narrow it down with a few quick questions:

    1. Are you using the Outlook desktop app, part of Microsoft 365 / Office, or Outlook on the web?
    2. Is your Outlook composing emails in HTML format, or is it set to Plain Text / Rich Text?
    3. Do all three new fonts fail to appear in Outlook, or just one?
    4. Are you on Windows or Mac, and is Outlook fully updated?

Outlook only shows fonts in the compose window if they’re supported in the message format you’re using. If your email format is set to Plain Text or Rich Text, some fonts, even if installed, won’t appear. Also, certain OpenType and variable fonts won’t show up in Outlook’s font list at all, even though Word supports them.

If you’re using the New Outlook for Windows, keep in mind that custom font selection isn’t currently supported, and no update enables it yet. You can also refer to this related thread.

If you’re on classic Outlook, you can try these steps:

Step 1. Follow the steps in this article first.

Step 2. In Outlook, go to File > Options > Mail > Compose messages and make sure the format is set to HTML.

Step 3. In File > Options > Mail > Stationery and Fonts, reopen the font picker after setting HTML and see if the font appears now.

Step 4. If it’s still missing, check if the font was installed for all users in Windows. Sometimes, installing a font just for your user account means Office apps don’t see it consistently. Right-click the .ttf file, choose Install for all users, and restart Outlook.

    All the best!
