How do I stop my laptop from opening and closing programs? I try to open and then programs close quickly.

When I try to click on programs on my HP laptop, it opens and closes programs quickly. It won't fully open and then closes. I can't run in S mode any longer because I had to install other programs and left S mode. Now, of course, I can't run in S mode. I paid for continued HP warranty service today and it doesn't start for a month! But I need help today. I ran performance checks through HP, restarted and re-booted several times. I got in task manager briefly because it wouldn't stay open. There are many programs running there. Please someone help! Thank you!

    Hi, good day!

    When was the last time it worked properly? What is your current Windows operating system and version? Press Windows key+R to open Run then type: winver

    Press Enter

    Please take a screenshot of the resulting window and post it in your next response. Note: Don't include any personal information as Microsoft Q&A is a public forum

    Please try to Re-register and reinstall built-in apps

    Press Windows key + X

    Click and Run Windows PowerShell (Admin)

    Copy and paste the command below then press Enter. Please ignore the red errors and let the process complete.

    Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Restart your computer

    Please try to run SFC and DISM to check for any system errors and corrupted files.

    If the issue persists, open Settings > please try performing an In-place Upgrade. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be removed.

    Few things to check on the PC

    • Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting
    • Disable or uninstall any third-party Antivirus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade

    Please see the complete instructions under In-Place upgrade.
