Opening SharePoint links in corresponding SharePoint iOS app not working

We are just in the process of rolling out SharePoint within our company. As we have many users which will be using the SharePoint on the iOS app on iPads I tried opening links to various SharePoint pages. I only managed to get the iPads to open the links in the browser (edge or safari) never in the corresponding SharePoint app. This is would be annoying for us as we have a different app on all devices managing internal news - where some news posts are referencing specific SharePoint pages.

Is there a way of force-opening links in the SharePoint app? Has anybody else encountered this issue?

    Hi @Simon Riess

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Q&A Support.

Based on the information I’ve found and my own testing across multiple iOS versions and devices, I can confirm that I’ve encountered the same issue: SharePoint links consistently open in the browser (Safari or Edge), and do not launch directly in the SharePoint app.

This behavior appears to be by design on iOS. Apple’s operating system does not allow third-party apps like SharePoint to automatically intercept and open web links unless the user explicitly chooses to do so. There’s currently no supported method to force SharePoint links to open directly in the app without user interaction.

As a community moderator, I don’t have direct access to the product engineering team to confirm roadmap details. However, I strongly recommend that your tenant admin raise a support ticket with Microsoft 365 to request clarification or advocate for this feature, especially if it’s a key part of your user experience strategy.

If you need any further assistance or have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help.

Thank you again for your patience and for choosing Microsoft Q&A forum.
