How to preserve cell colours when pasting in data

I have recently set up an Excel accounts spreadsheet, with coloured 'chequer-board' cells to make it easier to navigate. I am sent all the data which I then copy and paste into my sheet, but then lose all the colours. Is there some way of preserving them? At the moment I either have to type in the data one cell at a time, or alter the individual colours. Bother are very time consuming.

Instead of simply pasting, paste as Values. In the desktop version of Excel for Windows, you can press Ctrl+Shift+V to do so.

You can "freeze" the top row or rows.

If the headers are in row 1:

    • Activate the View tab of the ribbon.
    • In the Window group, select Freeze Panes > Freeze Top Row.

If the headers are in row 2:

    • Select the row below the header row, in this example row 3.
    • Activate the View tab of the ribbon.
    • In the Window group, select Freeze Panes > Freeze Panes.
