Why am I seeing “SaaS” charges for MongoDB Atlas on my Microsoft Azure Sponsorship subscription

I created a MongoDB Atlas Organization through Azure (via the Azure Marketplace) and linked it to my Microsoft Azure Sponsorship subscription. I’ve now received an Azure invoice that includes a line item categorized as SaaS for MongoDB Atlas. I’m a bit confused about this behavior.

Can someone please clarify:

  1. Are third-party Azure Marketplace/SaaS offerings like MongoDB Atlas excluded from Azure Sponsorship credits by default?
  2. If they are excluded, is there any way to have these charges covered by Sponsorship credits, or are they always billed separately?
  3. Where in the Azure portal can I verify/manage the related SaaS subscription for MongoDB Atlas to prevent further charges (and confirm the exact source of the invoice line item)?
  4. Are there recommended settings (e.g., spending caps or policies) for Sponsorship subscriptions to avoid unexpected Marketplace/SaaS charges?

Thanks in advance for shedding light on how Sponsorship billing interacts with Marketplace/SaaS charges and how I can manage/disable this if needed.

    Hi,

You cannot use your credits to pay for third-party offerings.

For some Azure account types you have the ability to disable purchasing paid marketplace offers via the billing profile. To check you would navigate to Cost Management + Billing -- Billing -- Billing profiles, click on the billing profile.

Once on the billing profile screen you would click Settings -- Policies, then under Azure marketplace purchases select Free or No and click Save.
