Hi holly, this is Kimberly. I'm glad to assist you today.
To find your contacts from a previous version of Office (especially Outlook) after switching to Office 365, here are several methods to locate and restore them:
- Check the Old Outlook Profile (If Still Accessible)
If your previous Outlook profile still exists on your computer:
Open Outlook.
Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
Click on the Data Files tab.
Look for any other Outlook Data Files (.pst) or Offline Outlook Data Files (.ost).
If found, open them in Outlook:
File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File (.pst).
Check the Contacts section after opening each one.
- Search for PST or OST Files on Your Computer
If the previous version of Outlook used a local data file:
- Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
- Search for:
*.pst
or
*.ost
- Note down file paths (typically in Documents\Outlook Files or AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook).
- In Outlook:
Go to File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File, then open the found file.
Navigate to Contacts in the opened file.
- Check Your Old Email Account (if still active)
If your contacts were tied to a specific email account (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Exchange), re-add that account:
File > Account Settings > Account Settings > New...
Add the email account.
Let Outlook sync.
Look in the Contacts section for your old contacts.
Should you have more questions, please let me know.
Best regards,
Kimberly
