Yep — you can use the ISO file from Microsoft’s download page and write it to a USB flash drive instead of burning it to a DVD.
- Download the ISO from the Windows 11/10 download page.
- Prepare a USB drive
- At least 8 GB in size.
- Back up anything on it — it will be erased.
- Write the ISO to USB (either of the two fairly straightfoward ways):
- Using Rufus (free, tiny program)
- Download Rufus.
- Open Rufus → Select your USB drive.
- Click “Select” and choose the ISO you downloaded.
- Keep defaults (GPT/UEFI for modern PCs) → Start.
- Using built-in Windows tool (no extra software)
- Insert the USB drive.
- Right-click the ISO → Mount.
- Open the mounted drive in Explorer, select all files, and copy them to the USB drive after formatting it as FAT32 (must be FAT32 for UEFI boot).
- This works only if all ISO files are ≤4 GB; otherwise Rufus is easier.
