Minecraft Java Username Change Issue

Howdy, for the past 10 years, I’ve had the Xbox username TheBigDaddyZeus. However, when I signed up for Minecraft Java edition, it wouldn’t allow it, making me resort to TheBigPapaZeus. For background, I’m a father of two and have a fun interest in Greek mythology.

I’ve tried multiple times to change my username to TheBigDaddyZeus with no luck, instead it gives me the following error message: “You can't use language that some might find offensive“.

Now I know this is ridiculous, I’ve run the name through profanity and offensive username checkers and it’s clean. Why is Microsoft filtering my username? I’ve tried contact Minecraft support but they’ve pretty much shrugged me off. I’m writing this post to see if anybody else from Microsoft would be able to resolve this for me.

    Hi,

Xbox is no longer supported on the Forums.

The only place for support is here:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US

    Sorry

    Hello,

I understand how frustrating that is, but Minecraft Java Edition uses the same Microsoft account naming policy and automated filters that apply across Xbox services, and those filters can block certain words or combinations even if they're not actually offensive. The system doesn't just look at the full word, it also checks for partial matches or phonetic similarities that could be misinterpreted. In your case, perhaps "Daddy" is being caught by the filter.

The filter rules are hardcoded into Microsoft's backend and can't be bypassed by support teams or Mojang staff, that's why Minecraft Support couldn't override it for you. The only way to use a variation is to make slight adjustments that don't trigger the automated scan, such as adding extra letters, numbers, underscores, or alternative spellings that keep the name recognisable (for example: "TheBigDadZeus").

If your goal is to keep the exact spelling, the reality is that, with the current Microsoft enforcement system, it won't be accepted in Minecraft Java or Bedrock until the filter list changes, and that's not something that can be requested or expedited.

I hope this helps in some way!
