Hi Azure Community,
I’m currently working on a project that involves migrating Azure SQL databases from one Azure tenant to another as part of an organizational restructuring. I’m looking for guidance based on Microsoft’s latest recommended practices, tools, and techniques.
Specifically, I’d appreciate help with:
- Different tools or approaches recommended for tenant-to-tenant SQL migration.
- Step-by-step guide of the recommended approaches to setup the migration (either automatic or manual).
- Security considerations when accessing resources across tenants.
- Handling identity and access management during and after migration.
- Real-world experiences or lessons learned from similar migrations.
If anyone has gone through this process recently or has insights into how Microsoft recommends handling this in 2025, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you for your response.
This method is not working out with an error message saying 'Subscription is not a part of the tenant'. I have tried using this method on both, source and destination using different SQL commands but having the same error. Do you think this could be a network issue or else if both the tenants are not capable of communicating with each other?

2025-08-11T21:23:37.2833333+00:00 I just re-tested this and it works. I have two subscriptions in two different tenants that are entirely unrelated to each other - except that I as a person I am the admin of both - but by different accounts and different domains.
You need to follow the instructions. I am not sure that the dance to make the SID on both sides the same is needed. But what is seems essential, is that you have the same username/password on both sides, and that this user is at least dbmanager on both servers.
