Basic Public IP SKU decommission

I have a VPN Gateway running SKU VpnGW1 and it has a Basic Public IP SKU attached to it. The Basic Public IP is set to dynamic and is not static.

Is there anyway to change the public IP to static without changing the IP

Is there anyway to migrate from Basic to Standard without changing the IP

I have read all the Microsoft Learn documentation for this upcoming change and I am trying to avoid at all costs from changing the Public IP, and for sure trying to avoid changing the IP and deleting and recreating the Virtual Network Gateway considering all the peering's tied.

Is there anyway to avoid this and reduce the downtime window for cutting over? My initial thought was creating a new standard public ip and attach it to a new Virtual Network Gateway and then add as a secondary endpoint for on prem equipment and then make that cutover. Then after everything is cutover, delete the old Basic IP and GW.

Hi Omar,There either is a migration path or soon will be a migration path for you to upgrade your Basic SKU public IP for your VPN Gateway to Standard SKU with small amount of downtime (up to 10 minutes). Your IP address will not change.

The deadline to upgrade the public IP associated with your VPN Gateway is end of January 2026.

Please navigate to your VPN Gateway in the portal, click Settings -- Configuration to see if you have Migrate tab. If you have Migrate tab, please follow instructions in article below:

If Migrate tab is not there, it means the migration functionality hasn't rolled out to the region yet. Please see article below for more detailed information on timelines:
