I am having an issue with Teams, more specifically, when I open an image from the shared files within a group, I get the following error, "This item might not exist or is no longer available" But the image is there and I can download the image or copy the sharepoint link and paste to a browser and the image does appear. This is happening for most but not all of the images in the same shared files. Permissions are correct and this was working without issue recently. Also, I tested Teams from the web and the result is the same.

    Hi @Carlos,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Q&A Community.

The error message "This item might not exist or is no longer available" in Teams (especially when accessing images from shared files) can sometimes be linked to how OneDrive or SharePoint is configured behind the scenes. Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve it:

Step 1: Confirm the Document Library Name

This issue often occurs when the default document library name in OneDrive has been changed from “Documents” to something else.

    • If you have admin access:
      • Open SharePoint Designer.
      • Navigate to All Files.
      • Locate the library used for storing shared images.
      • Right-click the library and select Rename.
      • Rename it to Documents.

    User's image

Note: Microsoft recommends avoiding customizations in OneDrive using SharePoint Designer unless necessary.

Step 2: Use Microsoft Admin Center Diagnostic

If you're an admin and not in GCC High, DoD, or 21Vianet environments:

    1. Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    2. Search for Run Diagnostics.
    3. Enter the User Principal Name (UPN) of the affected user.
    4. Run the test. Screenshot shows the Run Diagnostics section.
      1. If the diagnostic detects a renamed library, select the checkbox and click Update Settings.

    Step 3: Verify Permissions

Even though you mentioned permissions are correct, double-check that:

    • The image file is shared with the group or user.
    • The link isn’t restricted to specific individuals or expired.

Step 4: Test in SharePoint Directly

Since the image opens in a browser via SharePoint:

    • Try accessing the image directly from the SharePoint folder instead of Teams.
    • If it works consistently there, the issue is likely Teams-specific and tied to how it references the OneDrive/SharePoint backend.
