Sharepoint list validation does not show error message if using "edit in grid view"

Hi, I have a question regarding SP list validation. I've set a validation condition that if column A value is "N", then column B become mandatory and cannot be blank.

  1. Sharepoint list validation worked and show error message I set "Pls fill column B...." at the top of the form if I edit an item's column A via the form edit pane/create new item.
  2. However, my error message will not show if I edit the item via "edit in grid view". Column B can still temporarily show as "N" after I exit grid view. Only when I try to refresh the page, the page will overall display "Changes you made may not be saved" and then I can see in the refreshed page that Column A is indeed not changed to "N" as column B is still blank.

However I find mode 2 is not intuitive for my users who prefer using "edit in grid view mode" as they will not see the guidance error message I want them to see, to make the proper update needed. They may not even know that their choice is not saved after refreshing if they don't take a 2nd look.

Is there any better solution to this inconvenience? Thanks a lot!

    Hi @Li, Ruoxin

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

To better assist you with the issue that the SharePoint list validation does not show error message if using "edit in grid view", I’d like to ask a few quick questions to better understand your situation:

Have you tried creating a new list using the same validation formula to see if the issue still occurs?

Could you please share the formula you're using and the columns involved (feel free to redact any private information)? This will help me try to reproduce the issue on my end.

If possible, could you provide a screenshot of the issue and specify the column types you're working with?

I’ve tested this formula on my end, and the validation error does appear in "Edit in grid view." To help troubleshoot further, I’ll need more details from your setup so I can try to replicate the issue accurately.User's image
