Dear Sir

We are a Microsoft Exchange Customer

We use Recurring events in Outlook Classic Calendar

We make a change to one event - Put the word football -  and hit "Just this one".

The change is made to just one event in a recurring event.

When we do a manual search in Outlook Classic  Calendar for the word football - it does not find the event with the word football.

If I search in ios Calendar that is connected to Microsoft Exchange, it will find the word football.

Can you tell us can we can find the event with the word football in it?

Regards

    Hi Wayan Gedhe Nojuhanem Dhasri

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns regarding the search behavior in Outlook Calendar for recurring events that have been individually modified.

We understand that you edited a single occurrence within a recurring series changing its to "football" and cannot find the event with the word football. while the same search in iOS Calendar (connected to Exchange) correctly identifies the modified event.

This difference is due to how Outlook Classic handles recurring events.

    • When you select “Just this one” to modify a single occurrence, Outlook treats the change as an “exception” to the recurring series. In Window search mode, Outlook Classic may continue indexing the event under the original series, which can make it difficult to locate even when using Advanced Find.
    • iOS Calendar, on the other hand, uses Exchange ActiveSync, which treats the modified occurrence as a separate event. This allows it to be found more reliably.

I also explored alternative methods on my own to find a solution, and I discovered that using Outlook on the Web (OWA) is a more reliable way to locate modified occurrences of recurring events. OWA typically indexes changes to individual occurrences more effectively than Outlook Classic, making it easier to find these modified events.

I hope this information can help you, and if you need any further information, please feel free to reach out. I always here to help!
