Hi Jo Maisey,
Thank you for reaching out regarding the missing Copilot icon in Microsoft Word. I understand how valuable Copilot is to your workflow, and I’m here to help you restore access.
Please note that Copilot in Word is preloaded within the application itself—it is not a standalone app or add-in. If the icon has disappeared, it may be due to a configuration issue or an outdated installation.
To resolve this, I recommend following these steps:
Step1: Uninstall and Reinstall Office 365
To ensure you have the latest version of Word with Copilot preloaded, follow one of these methods:
- Manual Method:
- Press Windows + S, type Control Panel, and open it.
- Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select your Microsoft 365 product and click Uninstall.
- Using Microsoft’s Removal Tool:
- Visit the official guide: Uninstall Microsoft 365 from a PC
- Download and run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant to fully remove Office.
After that you can reinstall Office from your Microsoft Account: Reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office
Step 2: Enable Online Experience Services
- Open Word and go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings
- Ensure the following options are checked:
- Experiences that analyze your content
- All connected experiences
This enables Copilot features to appear in your apps.
Step 3: Enable Copilot in Word
- After restarting Word, open a document and select a paragraph.
- Look for the Copilot icon on the left side of the selection.
- If it’s still missing, please confirm that you're signed in with the correct Microsoft 365 account.
If you’ve completed these steps and the icon is still not visible, feel free to reply to this thread with a screenshot of your Word interface, and I’ll be happy to assist further.
