Hi Microsoft Team,

I have been using an excel model for 4 years with no problem, but for the last 3-4 days, the formula in my file has stopped calculating automatically. I have tried create a blank excel file with only one simple formula to test (this is also one of the formula in my excel model), and it does not calculate automatically either. I have checked the following:

  • My microsoft is the latest version ( check in File - Account - Update options - Update now).
  • Cell format is General.
  • Calculate option under formula tab is Automatic. I have also checked under File - Option - Formula and tick Automatic. I have switched back and forth between Manual and Automatic but no help.
  • F9 is pressed a couple of times and to force calculating.
  • I am using Window 11 Pro.

To demonstrate further, the formula used in my blank excel file is Now(). It used to auto update the real time automatically and has stopped for the last few days.

Looking forward to your support.

Thanks.

    Dear @Nghiep Vuong,

Good day! Welcome to Q&A forum! Thank you for taking the time to do the standard troubleshooting steps!

To understand the situation better, could you confirm the following information:

    • Has anyone in the same organization with you had the same issue?
    • Are there any specific error messages or prompts that show up when this issue occurs?
    • Is this happening with any particular function, or does it seem to be affecting all formulas?
    • Before this issue happened, were there any changes to Windows or Office apps?

Your confirmation would be very helpful!

In the meantime, kindly try the following suggestions to check what might have caused the issue:

    • Launch Excel in Safe Mode: as this disables add-ins and custom settings, helping identify if any of them are causing the issue
      • Try opening Excel in Safe Mode by holding down Ctrl while clicking the Excel icon
      • If Excel works in Safe Mode, kindly disable all add-ins via File > Options > Add-ins
      • Use the “Manage” dropdown to open Excel Add-ins, uncheck all, and restart Excel. If formulas calculate correctly, re-enable add-ins one at a time to find the one causing the issue.
    • Repair Office installation: This process can fix corrupted files or settings that might be affecting Excel’s behavior
      • Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Microsoft Office > Change, then select Repair
    • Reinstall Microsoft Office
    • Test on another device or user profile
      • Open the same Excel file on a different computer or user account
      • If the formula calculates correctly there, the issue may be specific to your current system or profile settings

Kindly let me know if these help identify the cause of this issue or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!
