Hi I was wondering about the cost of using Purview to Scan Source using managed virtual network

I see in this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/data-governance-private-endpoints-managed-virtual-network

User's image

that if we use it, the charge will come from 2 things

  • The scan compute cost
  • The VNet uptime

I'm clear on second Vnet uptime

but I’m a bit confused about the scan compute cost,

Initially, Purview billed compute resources for each scan, but they’ve updated their pricing model to remove scan-compute charges. as you can see in this article:https://docs.azure.cn/en-us/purview/ms-purview-dg-pricing-concepts

As of today, Purview no longer charges for the compute used by scans.

But If I enable a Managed Private Endpoint:

  • Will scans once again incur compute fees?
  • If so, will those fees follow the old scan-compute pricing model?
  • Or is there simply a separate private-endpoint/VNet charge on top of Purview’s standard costs?

Hi Harn(Au) Thonglertwong This is a valid point of confusion, especially with the updates Microsoft has made to Purview’s pricing model over time.

As of now, Microsoft Purview no longer charges separately for scan compute, even if you are scanning via a Managed Virtual Network (Managed VNet) and Managed Private Endpoints.

    • No, enabling a Managed Private Endpoint does not reintroduce scan compute charges.
    • There is no fallback to the old scan-compute pricing model.
    • The only additional cost incurred when using Managed VNet is the VNet uptime charge, which you’ve correctly noted.

This is confirmed in the official documentation here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/data-governance-private-endpoints-managed-virtual-network

And also reiterated in this pricing article (even if from the .cn domain, it reflects the global changes): https://docs.azure.cn/en-us/purview/ms-purview-dg-pricing-concepts

Finally: Scan compute is no longer billed, regardless of network setup. Only the VNet uptime is charged when using a managed virtual network.
