How to fix dim keys on keyboard

I just got a Microsoft surface laptop recently. My brightness on certain keys of the keyboard don't work. That is some keys light up fully and properly whereas some are dim and some don't light up at all. This has been the issue ever since i first turned it on and it has not been fixed or resolved. Anyone know why this may be? It's really disappointing to have a new laptop, and it doesn't work properly already.
