Hi guys,

I have a Azure disks billing questions, hope someone could help answer:

Azure disks are billed by the hour, so if you use for 5mins you are billed for 1hr. If you use for 1h54mins, you are billed for 2hrs. Is this statement accurate?

Thanks,
Gerome

    Hi Gerome,

Azure disks are billed by the hour, so if you use for 5mins you are billed for 1hr. If you use for 1h54mins, you are billed for 2hrs. Is this statement accurate?

A: No, your statement is incorrect. I'm assuming you are referring to managed disk attached to a Virtual Machine. Please correct me if my assumption is incorrect. Managed disks are charged at one second granularity, so if you created/deleted a disk such that it existed for 5 minutes total, you would be charged a pro-rated portion of the monthly fee equal to 5 minutes.

The exact pro-rated charge will vary based on the number of days in the month it occurred. For example, say it was a P10 LRS disk in East US ($19.71/month) in August, existing for 5 minutes, the charge would be approximately $0.0022076612903226.

    Thanks.
