I was having trouble trying to get an external ssd to connect to my console, so i was recommended formatting. I tried to reformat my external from exFAT to its default file system that started with an N. I also changed the allocation size to default to see if it would help. Nothing changed as far as console, however when i tried to format back to the previous settings, my laptop reads my external ssd as a local disk. Now when i try to format it, it disconects itself and says its a usb malfunction. I can open the properties, but as far as reformatting, it disconnects every time. I'm certain its not the cord as well. Is there anything that can be done to salvage my ssd, or is it just eternally lost in the void?

Right click your Start Button and open Disk Management.

Expand the bottom pane so all drives are visible in that pane.

Right click the partition on that drive and select 'Delete Volume.

When that completes, the drive will be marked as 'Unallocated space'.

Right click that space and select New - Simple Volume and ensure you select NTFS as the file system.

    Does that process succeed?
