Outlook, Excel and Word are always crashing at random time (MacOS)

Hello!

MacOS 15.6 (24G84),

Microsoft Outlook for Mac Version 16.98 (25060824), License: Microsoft 365 Subscription.

I open Outlook, do not even breathe on it, but at random time Outlook just disappears. I run it again, and again after some time it crashes.

The same trouble with Excel and Word applications.

Is there some fix of that?

Thank you.

    Hi Timur Zhantassov

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I really appreciate the details you've already shared. I'd like to help you move closer to a resolution. To better understand the issue and provide more accurate guidance, kindly clarify the following points:

    • Do any error messages appear when the applications crash? If so, please upload a screenshot (with personal information removed).
    • Have you updated your Office apps to the latest available versions?
    • Have you reinstalled the Office suite or attempted any reset actions?
    • Are you using the New Outlook for Mac or the Legacy version? If both, does the issue happen in each?
    • Have you removed and re-added your email account in Outlook, and did that have any effect?
    • Did this issue occur on previous versions of macOS or Office, or did it begin after a recent update?
    • Have you tried any other troubleshooting steps not mentioned above?

    Good day Timur Zhantassov

    Thanks for your detailed follow-up.

    • Based on your responses and current setup, you’re using the App Store version of Outlook, which is typically the New Outlook for Mac. To confirm this, please open Outlook menu at the top > Legacy Outlook. Try switching between the New and Legacy Outlook modes to see if the issue persists in both. User's image
    • It’s also important to note that the issue started after switching to your MacBook Air M4, while your colleague with the same device doesn’t experience the same problem. I recommend asking your colleague which versions of Office and macOS they are using. If they are running a different version than you, you might consider downgrading to match their setup to see if that resolves the problem. You can find more information and download previous Office versions here: Office for Mac update history. If you do decide to downgrade, please remember to disable Microsoft AutoUpdate (MAU) immediately after reinstalling the apps to prevent them from updating again. Based on my research, downgrading has helped some affected users. You can read more about their experiences in this community thread: Office 365 apps are closing randomly on macOS

Additionally, if issue still persists, I strongly recommend testing Office in a new user account on your Mac:

    • Go to System Settings > Users & Groups > click Add User (you may need to unlock with your password) to create a new Admin user.
    • Log out of your current account and log in to the new user.
    • Download and install Office directly from Microsoft's official website (not the App Store).

If the apps work fine in the new user account, it’s likely that your original profile is corrupted or has conflicting settings.
