I am trying to retrieve documents from my school OneDrive and I can still see all the documents in the folder in my computer, but most of them have a document box icon and can't be opened. I understand that means they are stored in the cloud and not directly in my computer. The problem is that my school account is no longer accessible as the school closed permanently in September 30th, 2023. I intend to create a professional portfolio to enroll back in school but all my documents are in the university's email account.
After doing some research, I got from another answer on this site that when a Microsoft 365 account is deleted, OneDrive data is retained for 30 days by default. After that, the data can still be recovered from the OneDrive recycle bin for up to 93 days. Of course it has been almost 2 years, but I also read on the same answer that if the organization hasn’t set a custom retention policy, the data may be moved to an archived state after 93 days. It can still be recovered, though a service fee may apply. This reply was given to another member's question by Jeanie-H - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist.
She also mentions that in order to recover my files, the IT administrators of the organization must request the recovery. However, in the case of a closed organization, who should I contact for assistance? Can Microsoft help me directly? Any guidance would make the difference of the world to me. Thanks in advance.
