Basic sku Public Ip address with Basic sku Vpn Gateway Retirement

Hi Team,

We currently have a Basic SKU Public IP address associated with a Basic SKU VPN Gateway setup. As per the recent announcement, the Basic SKU Public IP address will be retired on September 30th, 2025. However, we are still unable to find a proper migration approach for transitioning both the Basic SKU Public IP and Basic SKU VPN Gateway to a supported SKU.

From the below image, it was mentioned that the migration support for Basic SKU Public IP and VPN Gateway would be available by July 30th, but as of now, there is no official release or documented approach.

Could you please confirm when the migration tool will be available for VPN?

    Hi,

    The deadline for upgrading Basic SKU Public IP that is being used with VPN Gateway is end of January 2026, so there is still time.

    You are correct they haven't published migration path yet. I'm monitoring the timeline page as well as Azure Updates page.

    Worst case you now have the option to delete existing/recreate new Basic SKU VPN Gateway with Standard SKU Public IP. Obviously this involves more downtime and public IP will change, so waiting for them to release migration would be better.

    I tested this "worst case" scenario in one region already.

    I understand you’re asking about when the migration tool will be available for VPN. The public IP will not be deprecated on September 30, 2025; it will remain active until the end of January 2026. There’s no need to worry, as this will not affect your environment.

    The migration from Basic SKU public IP address to Standard SKU is currently in preview.

    Migration functionality is rolling out to regions. If the Migrate tab is not visible in your Azure portal, the migration option is not yet available in your region.

    Please wait a few more days, and you will find the migration tool available in your region.

    If you are looking for an alternative, you can manually remove your current Basic SKU VPN gateway and set up a new one with a Standard SKU Public IP address.

    Note that this will result in a new IP address and some downtime, so it's usually best to wait for the migration tools if possible.
