Thank you for getting back with the update.
In addition to the domain-level/user-level suppression list, Azure Communication Services also maintains a globally managed suppression list to help protect sender reputation.
Azure automatically tracks email addresses that have experienced hard bounces or persistent delivery failures when sent through ACS. These addresses are added to a global suppression list to avoid future attempts and maintain healthy sending practices.
Here are the stages involved in the lifecycle of a suppressed email address:
- Initial suppression – When an email address encounters its first hard bounce, it is added to the suppression list for 24 hours.
- Progressive suppression – If another hard bounce occurs during the initial suppression period, the suppression duration increases to 48 hours. With continued delivery failures, this period may progressively extend to 96 hours, and then up to 7 days.
- Automatic removal – Suppressed email addresses are automatically removed if no emails are sent to them during the suppression period.
- Drop in delivery
Maximum duration – Email addresses can stay on the managed suppression list for up to 14 days.
