I have been presenting ppt with embedded videos for years, playing them across slides. Suddenly ALL the saved Powerpoint presentations either played if set to 1 slide, or would not play at all if set to play across 2 or more slides. Either/or. I've tried everything, updates, settings, troubleshoot, etc. Please help.

    Hello Linford L. Stutzman,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

Thank you for your post. I understand that you are having issue with PowerPoint presentations with videos set to play across multiple slides. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.

With your situation, please try this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/play-a-video-automatically-in-a-slide-show-5f7cccce-2668-4853-a36c-fc2e68fa5eed

Play a video automatically when a slide appears in Slide Show

In Normal view, click the video in your slide.

    Click on the Playback tab.

Next to Start, click the down arrow, and select Automatically.

When you are delivering your presentation in Slide Show View or Presenter View, the video will play automatically when you arrive at the slide.

If your slide doesn’t have a video in it yet, you can add one. Go to Add and play a video in a presentation for more information.

Important: Certain older video file formats may not compress or export properly in Office on a Windows RT PC. Instead, use modern media formats such as H.264 and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC), which PowerPoint 2013 RT supports. Want to know what version of Office you’re using?

If it's still not working, for me better understand your situation and guide you to the most effective solution, here are a few clarifying questions:

    1. When did this issue start?
    2. What's PowerPoint version?
    3. Video format (.mp4, .mov, etc.)?
    4. have you tried it on another PC?
    5. Are you using custom templates or add-ins?

I am looking forward for your respond. Please feel free to let me know if the suggestion helped. Thank you so much for your times.

    Best Regard,

    Hello Linford L. Stutzman,

Thanks for your cooperation on running above steps and for the additional details. Let us keep working on this issue.

Thank you for your information, your issue started after a likely update to PowerPoint 2507 in early June 2025.

    • You're using MP4, which is the correct format.
    • No custom templates or add-ins — so the issue is likely PowerPoint itself, not your content.

With this situation, this is the known issue. Microsoft has acknowledged issues where videos set to play across slides may:

I'm so sorry for this inconvenient. I advise that you can send Feedback to Microsoft, by that way technical team will have more information about the case and pay more attention on the issue to have new update in the future. To send Feedback:

    1. Open PowerPoint.
    2. Go to File > Feedback.
    3. Choose “Send a Frown”.
    4. Describe the issue clearly, e.g.:

“Since version 2507 (June 7, 2025), videos set to play across multiple slides no longer work. They either don’t play or only play on one slide. This used to work fine for years.”

    5. Optionally, attach a sample file to help them reproduce the issue.

Therefore, this is my suggestion for you to work around until the issue get fixed:

    1. Split the video into parts (one per slide).
    2. Insert each part on its own slide.
    3. Set each to:
      • Start Automatically
      • Hide While Not Playing
    4. Use simple transitions (like “None” or “Fade”).

I am looking forward for your respond. Please feel free to let me know if the suggestion helped. Thank you so much for your times.
