I am currently working on a project that relies on the Preview of Responses API, and I’ve noticed that this feature is not available in the germanywestcentral region.

Could you kindly clarify why the API is not yet supported in this region, and whether there is a planned timeline for its availability?

Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could point me to an official channel or mailing list where I can subscribe to be notified of future updates or regional availability changes.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Best regards,

Vinicius Silva

    Hi Vínicius Silva,

Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in the Azure OpenAI Responses API (Preview).

Currently, the Responses API is only available in selected Azure regions during its public preview phase. The germanywestcentral region is not yet enabled for this capability.

    1.Current Regional Availability

    • Azure generally rolls out new API features—including AI platform previews—in selected regions first. This staged rollout allows Microsoft to monitor demand, optimize infrastructure, and ensure compliance with local data residency and regulatory requirements. Regions like germanywestcentral may be added later depending on those factors.
Thanks to Andriy Bilous (Kudos to community member 🙌) for the list of regions in which responses API is currently available.

    2.Reasons for non-availability

    • Staged Rollout: Preview features are typically launched in a limited set of global regions (commonly US, West Europe, or East Asia) before broader availability.
    • Data Sovereignty and Compliance: German datacenter regions have distinct legal and compliance requirements, which can delay or affect when previews or certain services are supported.
    • Resource and Demand Planning: Microsoft monitors usage and scaling needs before rolling new APIs into regions with high enterprise usage like germanywestcentral.

3.Ways to Stay Informed About Regional Changes

    • Azure Updates – Subscribe to the official update feed to get announcements on new product availability and regional expansions.
    • Azure Blog – Regularly posts news, feature releases, and roadmap insights.
    • Microsoft Learn & Tech Community – Join product forums or enable notifications to hear directly from the product teams.
    • Azure Portal – For subscription owners, the portal displays alerts on service changes relevant to your chosen regions.
