I am in Sharepoint and I created a new month by copying July but lost all my data on July while adding August. How can I retrieve this data?

@Stargle, Sherry I hope you are doing well,

Check this official documentation well help you recovery your files

    1. Check the Recycle Bin

If July’s files were deleted during the copy or overwrite:

    Go to your SharePoint site.

Click Settings (⚙️) > Site Contents > Recycle Bin.

Look in both the first-stage and second-stage recycle bins.

Select the missing files or folders and click Restore.

SharePoint retains deleted items for 93 days, so you may still be in the safe zone.

    1. Restore Previous Versions

If files were overwritten (e.g., August replaced July):

Navigate to the affected document library.

Right-click the overwritten file and choose Version History.

Select a version from July and click Restore3.

This works only if Versioning was enabled in the library settings.

    1. Restore the Entire Library

If many files were lost or corrupted:

    Go to the document library.

Click Settings > Restore this library.

Choose a restore point (e.g., a date in July).

    Confirm restoration.

This will roll back the entire library to a previous state—use with caution.

    1. Use OneDrive Sync or File History

If you had synced the library to your computer:

    Open File Explorer.

Right-click the folder or file > Restore Previous Versions.

Choose a version from July and restore it.

    If All Else Fails

Contact your SharePoint admin—they may have access to audit logs or Microsoft 365 backups.

    • Microsoft retains backups for 14 additional days beyond deletion—even if it’s not in the Recycle Bin
