Hello Tammy. You're not imagining it Microsoft Edge has quietly removed the "Always open favorites in new tab" setting from the usual Settings menu in their recent updates. This change has certainly frustrated those users hoping to avoid cancelling their existing favorite tab.
While there is no longer a toggle that you can turn on/off there are a few options:
Use keyboard shortcuts: And click you can hold down Ctrl and click on a favorite to open it in a new tab. You can also click with the middle-click on your mouse wheel and that will do the same thing.
Right-click: You can still right-click on a favorite in your favorites menu and choose "Open in new tab", but that requires an extra step.
Microsoft has been testing this feature in Canary builds and will hopefully bring it back to Standard builds in the future. In the meantime, you can also give feedback directly from Edge and press Shift + Alt + I - If you want to let them know you would like that back as well.
