Red C shaped section on display

Adobe Express - file

I was recently given a surface pro 7 by my former boss a few weeks ago and it has an issue that only shows up when I charge it. There is a red C or bracket shaped section that shows up when it is nearing full charge or plugged in for a full charge and the display has turned off. Could this be an issue with the battery? If not, does anyone have any suggestion on how to prevent this?

Thanks!

    Hello Alex,

    Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community, Regarding on your issue/concern "Red C shaped section on display" as you mention it is showing when the charger is plugged in and when it is near to full charge. in this case did you try other charger? or it is still the same when the charger is unplugged?

    incase it is still the same whether you have a different charger or it is unplugged try to check the firmware updates;

    Go to Settings → Windows Update and install all updates.

    then you can go to Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

    Download from Microsoft Support

    It can detect hardware issues including display and power anomalies.

    you can try to Test with external display

    Connect your Surface to an external monitor. If the red curve doesn’t appear there, it’s likely a screen-specific issue.

    and optional

    Change power outlet

    Use a different wall socket or a surge protector.

    Please let me know if it works. I await your response.

    Warm regards,
