Hello,

I just started a new job and my company set up a Microsoft account for me. I just got access to all of the platforms I need, expect my Microsoft account doesn't seem to be working correctly. They used my email to set up a personal Microsoft account and a different email for the business account. The problem is I need business access on the email they used for the personal account, not the business account. I cant find a way to change the access from personal to business without changing to a new email completely.

    Hi @Cody Trujillo,

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum and sharing the detail.

Before we proceed further, I’d like to first confirm that you’re signing in through the correct Outlook portal, as Microsoft has two different login sites depending on the type of account:
    • Personal Microsoft accounts (created at signup.live.com) should sign in at:  https://outlook.com
    • Work or School accounts provided by your organization (Microsoft 365 Business) should sign in at:  https://outlook.office.com
If you use the wrong portal, it can lead to limited access or confusion between account types — even if you’re using the correct email address. Please verify you’re using the correct site based on your account type.

Based in you shared, to clarify, personal Microsoft accounts and work or school accounts are handled by two separate identity systems at Microsoft. Unfortunately, there is no supported way to convert a personal Microsoft account directly into a business account. However, there are a few options your IT department can consider:
Delete the personal account and recreate it as a work account:
Your IT admin can request that you back up all personal data associated with the current personal Microsoft account. Then, you can submit a request to close that personal account. Kindly follow the Microsoft official document: How to close your Microsoft account - Microsoft Support

Once the account is fully deleted, IT can create a work account in Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) using the same email address and assign the required licenses. This is the most direct way to resolve the identity conflict.
Use a login alias for your work account:  If account deletion is not possible or must be avoided, your IT admin can create or continue using the existing work account and assign your preferred email address as an alias. They can then set it as your primary username so you can sign in using the correct email, while maintaining access to Microsoft 365 services under the correct identity.    I highly recommend your IT team contact Microsoft support through the admin center if assistance is needed to expedite account deletion or reclaim the domain identity.  Please refer the document to raise ticket on admin center: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Hello thank you for getting back to me. I was able to find a resolution to the email question but you response was super helpful. Maybe you could help me with my next problem. I am trying to add my work Microsoft account to my laptop but I keep getting Error 80192EE7. I want to be able to use Microsoft office with my computer but I have been unable to due to my personal account being the administrator. Do you have any idea how I work around this?

    Hi @Cody Trujillo,

Thank you for your response and I'm glad to hear that your issue was solved. If you find my answer helpful, please consider marking it as accepted. This helps other users with the same issue find it more easily, saves time, and makes our forum more supportive.

Based on the next issue you got, to help narrow down the root cause and provide the most relevant solution, could you kindly confirm a few details below:

    1. Are you attempting to join the device to your organization’s Azure AD, or simply trying to sign in to Microsoft Office apps (e.g., Word, Excel) with your work account?
    2. Do you know if your organization requires device management (e.g., via Microsoft Intune)
    3. Are you currently connected through a VPN or any custom network setup (e.g., DNS or proxy)?
    4. Is your work account able to sign in successfully at https://office.com

Additionally, if possible, please go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school, and let me know if there are any entries listed or errors showing after attempting to connect.

Once I have this information, I’ll be in a better position to guide you through the appropriate steps. Looking forward to your response.
