Whenever I open the Word or Excel Android app I see the message "One or accounts require you to sign back in".

Both apps are the latest version.

I've cleared the cache, reset, uninstalled/reinstalled the app.

Running on a Galaxy S25+.

Latest version of Android/Security patches installed.

    Hi there,

I’m Cherrelyn, and I’m here to help.

    Please try these suggestion:

    • Open the Word or Excel app, tap your profile icon, and remove the signed-in account.
    • Then go to your device Settings > Accounts and remove the Microsoft account from there as well.
    • Restart your phone, then re-add your Microsoft account both in Settings and inside the apps.

This refreshes the authentication token and often resolves the issue.

I hope this helps, and if you have any questions, feel free to reply to this post.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn

    Hi Marc,

    Thank you for your patience.

    Please try these suggestion Instead:

    • Clear credentials via Android settings: Go to Settings > Accounts > Microsoft account > tap Remove Account. Then, go to Settings > Apps > Word/Excel > Storage and tap Clear Cache and Clear Data.
    • Re-add only via Office app first: Instead of signing in through device settings, install the Microsoft Office app, sign in there first, and allow it to sync across Excel/Word.
    • Check Device Policy Management: If you're using a work/school account, it may require the Intune Company Portal or a device policy app. Check if your org enforces this, as missing policies can trigger repeated login prompts.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn

    Hi Marc,

Since previous steps didn’t help, I suggest removing your device from your Microsoft account online, then signing in again via a browser on your phone first before opening Word or Excel. This can refresh your session and clear any stuck authentication.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn

    Hi Marc,

Thanks for the update. Since it’s happening on both devices, it’s likely an issue with your account session. Try removing both devices from your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices, then restart the devices. Sign in to your Microsoft account from your browser first, then open Word or Excel and sign in again.

This should refresh the session and fix the sign-in loop.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn
