Start listening not working in copilot.

I need some assistance. When I open Copilot, everything works great except for the "Start Listening" feature—it has no effect at all. The box next to the microphone suggests saying "Start listening," but nothing happens when I say it. I’ve already reinstalled the program, but that didn’t fix the issue. My microphone is working perfectly, and the green input bar shows strong audio. I’m experiencing this on two PCs (one with Windows 10 and the other with Windows 11), and both have the same problem. Copilot dictates flawlessly but won’t respond to "Start Listening." I tried reaching out to Microsoft via phone and chat, but after waiting over 2 hours in the chat queue, I received a case-closed message without any resolution. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hello David Kelley,Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A and report the issue, and it seems that the Start Listening function of CoPilot is not working properly, it is likely a software or permission related problem, but you can follow the guide below to tackle with the issue:

    1. Check Microphone Permissions

    For Windows 10 and 11:

    • Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone
    • Enable Microphone access
    • Enable Let apps access the microphone
    • Under Choose which apps can access your microphone > toggle on for Windows Copilot/Microsoft Edge

If Copilot operate within Microsoft Edge:

    2. Clear Edge browser cache (If you're using Copilot in Edge):

    • Open Settings > Privacy, search and services > Clear browsing data > choose what to clear
    • Choose Cookies, Cached images/files and Site permissions > Clear now

    3. Reset Copilot's App Cache:

    • Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (for Windows 11) Settings > Apps > Apps & features (for Windows 10).
    • Find Microsoft Copilot application
    • Click the three dots > select Advanced options
    • Under the Reset option > Repair.
    • If that doesn't work, try Reset option.
    • After resetting, reopen Copilot and test Start listening again.
