Hi Raghu,
Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community. I understand that your having issue with your touchpad not working properly. To provide more accurate support, please share the brand and model of your device so I can tailor the troubleshooting steps accordingly.
In the meantime, here are few steps you can try:
Step 1: Check Touchpad Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the Touchpad is enabled.
- Adjust the sensitivity settings to "Medium" or "High" to see if this resolves the issue.
- Check the option for “Tap to click” and ensure it's enabled (or disabled, depending on preference).
Step 2: Update Touchpad Drivers:
- Outdated drivers can cause issues. Update the touchpad drivers by following these steps:
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click your touchpad device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If Windows doesn’t find an update, check the manufacturer’s website (e.g., Synaptics, ELAN) for the latest drivers.
Step 3: Check for Conflicting Software:
- Some third-party software can interfere with the touchpad. Consider uninstalling any newly installed programs that might be causing the issue.
- You can also boot into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists with minimal software running:
- Press Shift while selecting Restart from the Start menu.
- After your PC restarts, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Once restarted, select Safe Mode and test the touchpad.
Step 4: Reset the Touchpad Settings:
- If adjusting the settings didn’t help, try resetting the touchpad settings back to default:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad, scroll down, and click Reset.
Step 5: Test with an External Mouse:
- Connect an external mouse to check if the issue is specific to the touchpad or a broader input issue.
- If the mouse works fine, it’s likely the touchpad hardware or drivers causing the problem.
Step 6: Reinstall Touchpad Driver
- If updating the driver didn’t resolve the issue, you may want to reinstall it:
- Open Device Manager, right-click your touchpad device, and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your PC, and Windows should automatically reinstall the touchpad driver.
Please let us know if these steps help resolve the issue, or if you need further assistance. We're here to help!
