OneDrive says I am above my limit of 3GB storage even though I have a university account

Title is pretty self explanatory. I have a university email that has the education plan of 100GB. I would be able to usually see that but I got a notification today that I have 3GB (which the free plan itself doesn't even have) and that I have consumed 5GB already. Where is my 100GB as part of the plan?

    Hi @SYEDA AYESHA - 28142

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding your issue, based on your descriptions, seeing a 3GB quota on your account is unusual since neither the free Microsoft plan nor the A1 education plan officially has a 3GB tier. This likely means your university’s IT department temporarily reduced quotas possibly due to internal storage management or a configuration issue.

Since you mentioned having an education account, so I suggest contact your university’s IT support team with these details. They are the ones who manage your storage allocation and can clarify or correct the quota.

For more details, please refer to: Change a specific user's OneDrive storage space

If they are unaware of the issue, you can refer them to Microsoft’s recent changes to education storage plans. Changes to storage offerings across Microsoft 365 Education

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

    Hi @SYEDA AYESHA - 28142

    Thank you for the response.

If your OneDrive shows 3GB or 5GB in your regular browser or desktop app, but correctly shows 100GB when accessed via incognito mode, this can possibly be a cache/session issue instead.

Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Clear your browser Cache

Log out of your Microsoft account.

Clear your browser’s cache and cookies.

Restart the browser and sign back in.

    1. Reset the OneDrive desktop app

Press Win + R and enter:

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

If OneDrive doesn’t restart automatically, run:

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe

    1. Unlink and re-link your account
    • Right-click the OneDrive icon in your system tray.
    • Go to Settings > Account > Unlink this PC.
    • Sign back in with your university email.

Please give it a try and update for me to know if it works.
