Unable to use Azure AI Foundry due to region restriction on Azure for Students subscription

Hello,

I'm using the Azure for Students subscription and trying to create an Azure AI Foundry resource. Unfortunately, I'm getting the following error:

Resource was disallowed by policy. (Code: RequestDisallowedByPolicy)

"You can create resources in the following regions only: uaenorth, koreacentral, eastasia, southeastasia, malaysiawest."

However, Azure AI Foundry is not supported in any of these allowed regions, and the region field is locked, preventing me from switching to a region like East US, where AI Foundry is available.

I kindly request guidance or a way to temporarily unlock region access for my account or suggest how to proceed if Azure AI Foundry cannot be used in my current subscription setup.

This issue is blocking my educational project related to AI/ML, and I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi kashish,

Thanks, posting question in Microsoft Q&A portal.

Unfortunately, Azure AI Foundry is only available in specific regions like East US, which are not part of your allowed region list. This is a common limitation with some Azure services in the Azure for Students subscriptions.

    Here’s what you can try:

1.Use a Different Azure Subscription (if possible)

    • Create or request access to a Pay-As-You-Go or standard Azure subscription (if your institution can provide one).
    • These subscriptions usually do not have region restrictions, so you can select a region like East US, where Azure AI Foundry is supported.

    2.Raise a support request

    • Use the Azure Portal to raise a free support ticket and explain the issue.  They might have options or temporary solutions for students, but solutions can vary by account eligibility.

    3.Use any other azure Resource

    • If your goal is to experiment with AI/ML models, try Azure AI Studio or Azure Machine Learning Studio, which might be available in your allowed regions.
    • These services offer similar capabilities for prototyping and training models.

please feel free to post your quires here. I'm happy to assist you.
