Question About Boot-Up Warning Bypassed

I have my computer, monitor and printer plugged into a power strip. Every time I turned on the power to the strip, my Dell Inspiron computer immediately started up WITHOUT my having to press the power button on the computer. .. I would receive a warning message telling me that "Time of day not set. Please run SETUP PROGRAM. Invalid configuration information -- Please run SETUP."

I'm a newbie, sCMOS Warning

o am reluctant to run "Setup". I would merely click "Continue" every time I started the computer. Every time the computer date and time was correct. The most I ever did was enter "Settings" to set the time and date manually, but I would still get the warning at booting up.

I shut down the computer safely at night, as I always do. But this time, instead of turning off the power strip --which my computer, monitor and printer are all plugged into-- I left the power on all night.

In the morning, I started up the computer (pressing the power button on the computer) and there was no warning screen this time .... nor has there been since I began doing it this way. .... My question is, if it's the CMOS battery -- it can't be recharged on a desktop computer, correct?

Any theories as to what's going on? ..Is what I'm doing just a temporary fix?

That automatic power on function is a Dell function in BIOS, because Windows does not have any setting like that.

Your screenshot does seem to indicate a problem with BIOS, it may be the CMOS battery, but only if your PC is say more than 5+ years old, it would be unusual for the CMOS battery to need replacing before that.

A CMOS battery cannot be re-charged, it needs to be replaced.

Try resetting your BIOS first to see if that resolves the problems.

Start your PC, then on the Dell logo screen, repeatedly press the F2 key.

In BIOS, find the option to restore defaults and apply that, save those settings and restart your PC to see if that resolves the problems.
