Hi Tanisha! Thanks for reaching out — this issue has been reported by other Surface users and is typically related to the device booting directly into UEFI (BIOS) mode instead of Windows. Here are some steps that have helped others resolve this:
Step-by-Step Fix:
- Perform a Hard Reboot
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds, then release.
- Wait a few seconds, then press and hold Volume Up + Power together for 15 seconds, then release both.
- Wait another 10 seconds, then press the Power button once to turn the device back on.
- Wait a few seconds, then press and hold Volume Up + Power together for 15 seconds, then release both.
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds, then release.
This should force the Surface to exit UEFI and attempt to boot into Windows.
- Check for USB Devices
- Remove any USB drives or accessories connected to the Surface.
- Sometimes, the device tries to boot from an external drive and ends up in UEFI.
- Reset Boot Order (if needed)
- If you're still stuck, go to Configure Alternative System Boot Order in the UEFI menu.
- Set the boot order to SSD > USB > Network.
- Save and exit the setup.
- Use Surface Recovery Image (if Windows won’t load)
- If the device still doesn’t boot, you may need to reinstall Windows using a recovery image:
- Visit Surface Recovery Image Download - Create a bootable USB and follow the instructions to reset your Surface.
