Azure Site Recovery test using "Failover" (not "Test Failover") and Not Re-Protect at end of Test.

I have done "Test Failovers" on my ASR replication items.

I want to try to do a DR Test using the "Failover" option because it mimics more of what a real failover will do. Moreover, I want to do application testing on the application that we Failover.

Per the procedure:https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/azure-to-azure-tutorial-failover-failback

in Step 7. You "Commit" the failover. At this point I could test the application in DR Region.

I do not want to "Re-Protect" the VM because I do not want to replicate back to the source VM, because this is just a test, and I dont want test data to get put back into the VM in the source region.

However, if you do not "Re-protect" - how do you get the status in the source region back to Normal :

{EB96B5A4-CFFB-4DAA-9845-D954FA3D29E4}

Instead I'm looking at this:

{29CD49F4-136C-45DC-B60A-D363909DB590}

Is there a way to "manually clean up" and get back to "Normal" (post testing)?

    Hello Rob McNees,

    Okay, seems you are busy at this moment.

    when you perform a failover in Azure Site Recovery (ASR) and do not choose to re-protect the VM, the status of the VM in the source region will not automatically revert to "Normal." To manually clean up and return the status to normal, you would typically need to disable protection for the VM in the source region. This involves removing the replication configuration and any associated settings.

    However, keep in mind that once you disable protection, the VM will no longer be replicated, and you will lose the replication history. If you want to maintain the ability to replicate in the future, you will need to re-enable protection after performing the necessary cleanup.

    To summarize, the steps to manually clean up and get the status back to "Normal" would generally involve:

    1. Disable protection for the VM.
    2. Remove the replication configuration.
    3. Optionally, re-enable protection if you wish to continue using ASR for that VM in the future.

    If you need further clarification, please respond over the private message. so that i can give you the full insights about the ASR process.
