How do I rest my OneDrive Student Account – Domain Not Managed by School

I’m reaching out regarding a OneDrive for Students account I created in 2017 using my student email which I still have access today. At the time, I registered directly through Microsoft’s student promotion and did not go through any school-managed process.

Recently, I’ve been unable to access the account because:

  • I cannot reset the password.
  • Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is not enabled.
  • My school’s IT administrator confirmed they do not manage the domain associated with my student email.

Despite this, I continue to receive emails from SharePoint, which suggests the account is still active and in fact already beyond storage limit. I suspect the account may be part of a Microsoft-managed tenant created during the promotion.

Could you please assist me in recovering access to this account or advise on the next steps? I can provide recent emails from SharePoint as proof of activity if needed.

Based on your description, could you please share a few more detail in the following:

    • Could you please share detail about the subscription of the OneDrive for Students you purchased? Did you access via this Free Office 365 for Students and Educators | Microsoft Education to registered?
    • You mention that you cannot reset the password, may I know the details about this situation? (such as how you trying to reset password or is there any error message appear?)
