    Hello,

    Good day to you!

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community!

For the information you provided, I wanted to know that the Excel file’s edit or view-only mode depends on the user’s permissions, not the device. You need to configure user-specific sharing settings in OneDrive/SharePoint.

But I will suggest some workarounds you can try:

    1. Share files from OneDrive or SharePoint:

    • Open the Excel app on your iPhone and locate the shared file (e.g., via File > Open > Shared)
    • Shared files from OneDrive or SharePoint may open in Protected View (read-only by default). Avoid tapping Enable Editing to stay in read-only mode.

    2. Using "Mark as Final" to Set Read-Only:

If you own the file, adjust permissions:

    • Open the file in Excel for Windows or Mac.
    • Click File > Info > Protect Workbook.
    • Select Mark as Final or Restrict Editing.
    • Save the file and upload it back to OneDrive or SharePoint.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, feel free to reply, and I am still here to help figure out how to best help you.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

    Best Regards,

    Thank you for responding.

I’m deeply sorry that the suggestions I provided earlier didn’t help you.

If your shared Excel sheet isn't opening in Protected View, please help me follows these steps:

    • Go to the File menu.

    • Select Options > navigate to Trust Center and select Trust Center Settings.

    • Choose Protected View from the Trust Center dialog box and ensure the relevant options are enabled

For your situation, I really want to help you but as a forum moderator, I can share insights based on my knowledge and experience. For that reason, the most efficient solution would be to contact Microsoft’s support team directly.

    • If you are end- user and this is work account (managed by your organization), you can contact to IT administrator and ask them to follow these steps:

Create a support ticket from Microsoft 365 Admin Center>Support>New Service Request. Admin can raise a support ticket

    from https://admin.microsoft.com/#/support/requests.

Find Your Microsoft 365 Admin: If you’re unsure who the Global Admin is within your organization, you can find guidance on locating them here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

Additionally, you can ask about your issue here, where there will be more technical experts.

If there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask.
