Excel and Word on iPhone cannot retain Dropbox connection

Hello,

I am using Excel and Word on my iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 18.3.2. Excel and Word are the latest versions (auto update apps is enabled).

For a very long time I was accessing and editing my .xlsx and .docx files stored on Dropbox. Lately, in the last several weeks, both apps keep losing the connection to Dropbox and I keep reauthorizing the apps to access Dropbox but Excel and Word forget these connections the next time I open the app. Often I cannot even add Dropbox as a storage account - only Microsoft clouds are choices. I sometimes get privacy messages telling me I must restart the app but that doesn't help.

What am I doing wrong? If Excel and Word for iOS support Dropbox, what must I do to get that to work?

Thanks for your help.

Maurice Frank

    Dear Maurice

I completely understand how frustrating it can be for you. I will make sure this get the attention it deserves.

Recent updates to Excel and Word apps on iPhone are causing issues with maintaining a stable connection to Dropbox, prompting many users to face similar challenges. I will provide you possible solutions which might help you to solve your issue.

    Reinstall Apps: ****

A common troubleshooting step has been to uninstall and then reinstall both the Excel and Dropbox apps. After reinstalling, ensure to reconnect to Dropbox to see if the issue is resolved"

Check for Updates: Ensure both the Dropbox and Microsoft Office apps are updated to the latest versions. Sometimes, bugs are fixed in subsequent patches after major updates

    Use the iOS Files App:
As a workaround, access Dropbox files through the iOS Files app. This method allows you to open these files directly in the respective Office applications without losing connectivity

I am attaching some solutions which might help you to solve your issues.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have removed and reinstalled the apps, but I have not tried your other suggestions. Will do.

Just wanted to add that I’m having the exact same issue on my iPad. Up until recently I was able to browse and open/save files to my Dropbox account from Word and Excel on my iPad without any issue, but over the past few weeks it now wants me to reauthorize the Dropbox connection just about every time I use the apps. I’ve removed Dropbox and deleted the connections from both Word and Excel, but that hasn’t made the setting stick. It looks like it might be something in the latest versions of the Office apps not playing nice with Dropbox.

I have done all of the recommendations as well and it did not help. Notably my OneDrive connection never drops from Excel.
