Dear Bob,
Thank you for your inquiry and for using Excel on your iPad Pro. I understand how important it is to maintain your usual workflow, and I appreciate you reaching out for assistance.
In Excel for iPad, while the VLOOKUP function works well for looking up data within the same workbook, referencing data from another workbook is not currently supported. This limitation means that if you have data in a separate file, Excel on your iPad won’t be able to pull that data using VLOOKUP in the same way as the desktop version does.
For scenarios where you need data from two sources, I recommend one of the following workarounds:
- Consolidate Data: If possible, combine the necessary data into a single workbook. This approach allows you to successfully use VLOOKUP to reference data within the same file.
- Use Excel on Desktop: If combining the workbooks isn’t feasible for your workflow, you might consider performing the operation on a desktop version of Excel, which fully supports external references.
We continuously review user feedback to enhance Excel on mobile devices, and your input is invaluable as we work on future improvements.
Thank you once again for reaching out. Please let me know if you have any further questions or need additional assistance.
Warm regards,
